Berl\u00edn. Una ciudad que conoce los muros y lo que significa derribarlos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Esta semana trajimos aqu\u00ed el Tour Europeo de Protect Pouches, con nuestro jetpack de caf\u00e9, bollos de canela y un mensaje simple: no construyas nuevos muros entre las personas y las decisiones que salvan sus vidas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Caf\u00e9, bollos de canela y conversaciones<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
En pleno coraz\u00f3n de Berl\u00edn, nuestra bicicleta de caf\u00e9 se convirti\u00f3 en un im\u00e1n. La gente paraba a tomar un caf\u00e9, com\u00eda bollos de canela y, lo m\u00e1s importante, compart\u00eda sus historias. Fumadores que hab\u00edan dejado de fumar. Amigos que ya no respiraban humo de segunda mano. Familias que ya no se preocupaban por el olor a cigarrillo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cada postal firmada era un mensaje a los legisladores: no confundan las bolsitas con los cigarrillos, no proh\u00edban lo que funciona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bruselas quiere barreras. Los berlineses quieren salud.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Mientras los berlineses nos hablan de liberarse del tabaco, Bruselas est\u00e1 ocupada elaborando un Plan de Salud Cardiovascular que, incre\u00edblemente, podr\u00eda clasificar las bolsas de tabaco como \u201cfactores de riesgo\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eso es como prohibir los cinturones de seguridad porque nos recuerdan a los accidentes de coche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
La ciencia es clara:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Las bolsas no contienen humo ni tabaco y son mucho menos da\u00f1inas que los cigarrillos. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
El modelo de Suecia lo demuestra: la tasa de tabaquismo m\u00e1s baja de Europa (5,6%), 44% menos de muertes por tabaco y las tasas de c\u00e1ncer de pulm\u00f3n m\u00e1s bajas de la UE. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
Y s\u00ed, tasas de enfermedades card\u00edacas y accidentes cerebrovasculares m\u00e1s bajas que sus vecinos. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Si el resto de Europa siguiera el ejemplo de Suecia, se podr\u00edan salvar 3,5 millones de vidas en la pr\u00f3xima d\u00e9cada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alemania en una encrucijada<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Aqu\u00ed en Alemania, las bolsas se encuentran en una zona gris legal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Su venta est\u00e1 prohibida, pero m\u00e1s de 1,4 millones de personas ya las utilizan. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
Esto significa importaciones sin control, sin est\u00e1ndares de calidad y oportunidades perdidas tanto para la salud de los consumidores como para la de los futuros no fumadores. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Alemania no necesita confusi\u00f3n ni prohibiciones. Necesita reglas claras<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Est\u00e1ndares de calidad seguros. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
Ventas legales en comercios, no en el mercado negro. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
Se protegen los sabores y el acceso justo del consumidor. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Los berlineses nos dijeron lo mismo mientras tom\u00e1bamos caf\u00e9 y panecillos: quieren opciones, seguridad y una oportunidad real de dejar de fumar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
El \u00fanico muro que importa<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Estando en Berl\u00edn, uno no puede evitar recordar c\u00f3mo es la divisi\u00f3n. La gente a un lado del muro, atrapada. La gente al otro, libre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Europa se enfrenta ahora a una disyuntiva: mantener a los fumadores atrapados en h\u00e1bitos poco saludables o derribar el muro y permitir que los adultos elijan alternativas significativamente m\u00e1s seguras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nuestro mensaje desde Berl\u00edn<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
De Par\u00eds a Berl\u00edn, el mensaje es el mismo:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dejemos que los adultos elijan una mejor manera de dejar de fumar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Abandonemos el h\u00e1bito de manera realista y vivamos vidas m\u00e1s saludables.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
No proh\u00edban ni graven impuestos excesivos a las bolsas como a los cigarrillos. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Berl\u00edn nos demostr\u00f3 que la gente entiende la reducci\u00f3n de da\u00f1os. Ahora le toca a Bruselas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Protege las bolsas. Protege la libertad. Protege nuestras vidas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
