Not 4.8. Not even 0.5. <strong>Zero-point-zero-four-eight.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s not even enough to take the edge off a craving \u2014 unless you\u2019re a hamster. Anyone who\u2019s ever actually used a pouch knows that level of nicotine does nothing. It\u2019s a placebo, not a policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s not a regulation. That\u2019s a polite way of saying, \u201cWe\u2019d rather you went back to smoking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you might be wondering: why this number? Is there a study? A scientific rationale? Any data at all?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/clearingtheair.eu\/en\/post\/luxembourg-criticised-for-proposing-de-facto-ban-on-nicotine-pouches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">There isn\u2019t.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the EU noticed. <strong>Greece<\/strong> called the cap <em>\u201cdisproportionate\u201d<\/em>. <strong>Sweden<\/strong> \u2014 the only country in Europe that\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.folkhalsomyndigheten.se\/the-public-health-agency-of-sweden\/living-conditions-and-lifestyle\/andtg\/tobacco\/use-of-tobacco-and-nicotine-products\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">virtually smoke-free<\/a> thanks to pouches and Snus \u2014 warned the measure would <strong>wipe out the entire market<\/strong>. And even the <strong>European Commission<\/strong> raised legal concerns, reminding Luxembourg that <strong>graphic health warnings<\/strong> don\u2019t even apply to these products under EU law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the real question is: why is this happening at all?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nicotine pouches are <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/34034614\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">significantly<\/a> less harmful. They don\u2019t burn. They don\u2019t create smoke. They don\u2019t stink up your clothes or affect the people around you. They\u2019re discreet, clean, and \u2014 for millions of smokers \u2014 they work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what\u2019s the threat?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ironically, the threat, apparently, is that people might choose them instead of lighting up. The threat is that adults could actually quit smoking and be healthier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Considerate Pouchers, we believe that if a product <strong>doesn\u2019t harm others<\/strong>, <strong>helps people quit smoking<\/strong>, and <strong>has a lower risk profile<\/strong>, then governments should get out of the way and let people choose safer alternatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only logical explanation is that Luxembourg\u2019s proposal isn\u2019t about health. It\u2019s about optics.
