Berlin. A city that knows walls, and what it means to tear them down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This week, we brought the Protect Pouches European Tour here, with our coffee jetpack, cinnamon buns, and a simple message: don\u2019t build new walls between people and the choices that save their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Coffee, Cinnamon Buns, and Conversations<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Right in the heart of Berlin, our coffee bike became a magnet. People stopped for coffee, grabbed cinnamon buns, and, most importantly, shared their stories. Smokers who had quit. Friends who no longer breathe second-hand smoke. Families who no longer worry about the smell of cigarettes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Every postcard signed was a message to lawmakers: don\u2019t confuse pouches with cigarettes, don\u2019t ban what works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While Berliners were talking to us about liberating from cigarettes, Brussels is busy drafting a Cardiovascular Health Plan that might, unbelievably, classify pouches as \u201crisk factors.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s like banning seatbelts because they remind you of car crashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The science is clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
Pouches are smoke-free, tobacco-free, and far less harmful than cigarettes. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
Sweden\u2019s model proves it: the lowest smoking in Europe (5.6%), 44% fewer tobacco deaths, and the lowest lung cancer rates in the EU. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
And yes, lower heart disease and stroke rates than their neighbors. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
If the rest of Europe followed Sweden\u2019s example, 3.5 million lives could be saved in the next decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Germany at a Crossroads<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Here in Germany, pouches sit in a legal grey zone:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
Sales are prohibited, but over 1.4 million people already use them. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
That means uncontrolled imports, no quality standards, and missed opportunities for both poucher\u2019s health and future non-smokers. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Germany doesn\u2019t need confusion or bans. It needs clear rules<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safe quality standards. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
Legal sales in shops, not in the black market. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
Flavours and fair consumer access are protected. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Berliners told us the same thing over coffee and buns: they want choice, safety, and a real chance to quit smoking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Only Wall That Matters<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Standing in Berlin, you can\u2019t help but remember what division looks like. People on one side of the wall, trapped. People on the other, free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Europe faces the choice now: keep smokers trapped in unhealthy habits, or break down the wall and let adults choose significantly safer alternatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our Message From Berlin<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
From Paris to Berlin, the message is the same:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
Let adults choose a better way out of smoking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Let us quit realistically and live healthier lives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Don\u2019t ban and overtax pouches like cigarettes. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Berlin showed us that people understand harm reduction. Now it\u2019s Brussels\u2019 turn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
