Nicotine Pouches at the Cinema: No Popcorn, No Guilt

The Palafox is one of those cinemas that feels like it was built for a different era. High ceilings. Seats that make you sit up straight without meaning to. A Ukrainian woman showed me this place two years ago. We don’t see each other anymore. I still go back.

Last Saturday I went alone to see The Odyssey. Nine in the evening.

I joined the queue at the canteen. Not because I was hungry. Force of habit.

I was halfway up the queue when I reached into my pocket and took out a mint nicotine pouch. I wasn’t hungry anymore. I stepped out of the queue and walked straight into the screening.

Two hours and forty minutes later I walked out. No popcorn. No guilt. No extra calories to think about the next morning. The nicotine pouch cost me nothing. The popcorn would have cost me seven euros and most importantly a bad conscience.

Christopher Nolan has been building to this his whole career. You feel it in every frame. Critics are calling it his best film yet. They’re right.

Some evenings just land right. Good film. Good seat. Mint nicotine pouch in my pocket.

Nothing to regret in the morning.
