We Took Action in Barcelona – Fighting for Pouches!

February was an exciting month for Considerate Pouchers as we took our campaign to the streets of Barcelona. This time, we weren’t just engaging with local consumers—we were also sending letters to the Spanish government, urging them to adopt fair regulations for nicotine pouches.

Spain is proposing extreme restrictions on nicotine pouches, including limiting nicotine levels to just 0.99 mg per pouch and banning all flavors except tobacco. These measures would wipe out most nicotine pouches on the market, making them ineffective for smokers looking for a less harmful alternative. If nicotine levels are too low, smokers won’t switch, and banning flavors removes a crucial element that helps consumers transition away from cigarettes. Public health wins when better alternatives are available, not when they are restricted out of existence.

During our time in Barcelona, we met with local consumers and harm reduction advocates who shared their concerns about these upcoming regulations. Many of them signed and personalized letters to Spanish decision-makers, emphasizing the importance of keeping nicotine pouches effective and maintaining a variety of flavors. By the end of the campaign, we had gathered and sent hundreds of letters, each carrying a clear message: Reject excessive restrictions – support harm reduction!

Beyond letter-writing, we also engaged with the public, sparking conversations about harm reduction and nicotine regulation in Spain. The response was overwhelmingly positive—people were eager to learn more, and many shared their personal experiences of switching to pouches as a way to reduce or quit smoking.

This campaign in Barcelona was another step in our ongoing fight for sensible nicotine regulations. By amplifying the voices of real consumers, we are making it clear to policymakers that restrictive measures will only push people toward riskier alternatives or back to smoking.
